If they do this and simply increase reservation, they will not come back to power. Their votebank will abandon them. Sure they might gain some reserved category votes but Congress will just offer even more insane reservation.

But at that point I think it won't make any difference because the country will be well on its way to self destruction. We would be doing Pakistan's work for them.

My only hope is that they don't do idiotic steps like sub-categorization for their vote bank, the signs are somewhat positive like non-disclosure of Rohini Commission but let's see. TBH the caste census or survey can't be delayed, unreserved at the centre only have some power to oppose it, at state the situation is dire in each and every state - many Unreserved at Centre are reserved at State. We will have to see what they will they do with the data.

Edit: I doubt that BJP will get any credit or new votes though due to schizophrenic messaging, Congress gain may be halted in case of anti-incumbency in coming elections of Bihaar, but beyond that without any roadmap it may give rise to Congress political mobilisation on back of demands which will come from the caste census.

Data can be used for both good and bad purposes. Our politicians are definitely well-trained in using data for vote banks or for decisions that benefit them.

What good can this data do? We’re already divided based on religion, region, colour, race, caste, and more. But if we must act on differences, shouldn’t we shift the focus to economic or financial status instead of something like caste?

Agree with all your points and regarding land re-distribution,  although necessary, but the middle men, the politicians will eat it away. 

And regarding Private Sector,  in Organizations it is not possible,  but affirmative action  maybe possible in Private Educational Institutions.

Also agree with adequate representation in Judiciary,  as the Law minister pointed out, in the last 5 years,  77% of the judges Appointed in High Courts are of UCs.

My post aims to explore the various ways in which the caste census can be used for the betterment of all sections of society, especially the marginalised. Maybe only few are feasible.
The intention is to understand how the caste census could help and nudge governments to take meaningful action toward upliftment.
It is our responsibility to push governments to act on the findings of the caste census for genuine social progress, rather than allowing it to be used solely for political gains..

Caste census is done, it shows that General category are actually in minority(in numbers), so they restructure the reservation system whereby GM gets 30% or more reservation and rest for all other categories. High chances that cut off % will be uniform after that(equal merit irrespective of category)

Land redistribution will ne highly contentious and so is reservation in private jobs. The govt cannot sieze the property of private land holders and shouldn't dictate who they can hire.

From purely monetary perspective, the only people affected by land redistribution are the middle class and upper middle class. Industrialists and families who parked their money in RE are unaffected. And what is even the criteria behind land redistribution and not wealth redistribution? The 1% who hold the 60-70% wealth and wield a lot of power doesn't derive from land in most cases. The days of zamindars are long gone.

Coming to private reservations, it is a very bad move. Consider the case of an MNC that wants to fill the position for a critical engineering role, and the candidates of their choice are from UR category. What should they do in that case? Or the case of a budding startup. These industries have not been started with government money, so they have no right to dictate who to hire. There is already a lack of talent pool in many sectors, and on top of that, you want to bring more restrictions?

On the other hand, gathering data might be good so we can actually know if govt policies are helping people.

Affirmative action in private sector is definitely one way to completely destroy our economy. How do you even enforce something like that? Private company jobs aren't based on an exam that you can put a quota on. It's better for companies to hire based on merit rather than force them to hire people based in arbitrary bullshit like your surname or caste, because the companies would simply leave to a place where they can hire based on merit and the job market would be completely destroyed. The rest of us will be left squabbling for government jobs, which are already ridiculously competitive or just immigrate to foreign countries where we don't have yo deals with this nonsense.
